Adient

Reported to CEO and led staff of 700 with large outsource environment, and annual budget $300M+. Supported just-in-time environment with robust B2B/EDI environment with OEMs and suppliers. Served on Board of Directors Audit Committee and presented quarterly.

  • Migrated and separated IT systems from parent company. RESULT: Completed 14-month $230M program on-time and under-budget with minimal transition service agreements. 

  • Launched digital office.  RESULT:  Instilled entrepreneurial spirit and accelerated usage of modern (social, mobile, analytics, cloud, agile) technology. Implemented model Industry 4.0 (IoT) plant.

  • Implemented Skype4Business, ServiceNow, renegotiated contracts, retired applications, and other savings initiatives.  RESULT:  Reduced IT budget by $160M and headcount by 40%.

  • Upgraded QAD, SAP to HANA, and TeamCenter environments.  RESULT: Reduced customizations by 70%, moved critical systems to supported versions, and greatly improved system performance.

  • Integrated IT systems from $360M Futuris acquisition.  RESULT: Achieved IT savings of 57%.

  • Headed cybersecurity program maturity assessment and improvement. RESULT: Security maturity score increased to third quartile as compared to assessed universe.

2014-2015

Chief Information Officer

Power Solutions

Johnson Controls

Recruited by Power Solutions President and CFO to lead the global IT team for $6.6B division. Scope included 160 employees and $80M budget. Responsible for business systems, including web applications and data analytics tools. Focused on delivering sales and marketing excellence programs and enterprise SAP system.

  • Formulated platform costs for increased organizational transparency. RESULT: Controllable budget reduced by 25%.

  • Conducted Business Alignment survey to baseline customer experience. RESULT:  Chartered improvement plans and strengthened business partnership through communication and regular updates.

2014-2015

Chief Information Security Officer

Johnson Controls

Commissioned to expedite step-level change in enterprise security posture, including compliance with PCI and Federal (FISMA/ITAR) regulations. Used strong influencing skills and teamwork for improving security within business units. Established information security governance process and presented security strategy quarterly to Board of Directors Audit Committee. Aligned company organizational goals to security policies, products, and priorities.              

  • Drove several technical, capability and compliance assessments to determine current state. RESULT: Built risk-based business case and gained approval for a $100 million multi-year investment.

  • Implemented data loss prevention system in China joint venture.  RESULT: Potential security events reduced by 49%.

  • Chaired internal security summit and deployed flexible training to educate IT and business leaders on cybersecurity related risks.  RESULT: Established a security-minded culture.

  • Initiated RFP and sourced SOC provider.  RESULT: Improved incident response process and reporting.

  • Developed risk register with compensating controls and actions to mitigate.  RESULT: Ability to articulate company risk to Board. 

2011-2014

Vice President, Global Infrastructure

Challenged with turning around struggling PC operating system upgrade for 90,000 devices. Scope included the centralized Technical Services for all business units, including the network, telecommunications, mobility, PCs, service desk, data centers, collaboration tools, and identity management. Led 280-person team, and managed services contracts.

  • Implemented virtualized infrastructure, private cloud, and process improvements. Engineered cloud index for determining best application hosting location. RESULT: Reduced hosting costs by 17+%.

  • Utilized Effortless Experience and flawless execution techniques, and instilled mission of “Earn our customers’ business every day.” RESULT: Raised user satisfaction from 64% to 89%, and increased business acumen team scores by 20% as measured by annual survey.

  • Executed root cause analysis to eliminate and prevent technical issues. RESULT: Substantial increase in system uptime, availability and performance.

  • Established an open team culture. RESULT: Increased team employee engagement from 72% to 81% and leader effectiveness from 74% to 84%; personal scores were 90% and 92% respectfully.

  • Designed new chargeback model for cost transparency.  RESULT:  Produced levers for business to reduce direct costs.

  • Deployed production Hadoop cluster for executing big data projects.  RESULT: Enabled business analysis and insights; assisted in implementation of predictive maintenance on customer equipment.

ABOUT ME
I'm an "Executive in Overalls"

At least, that's what my dad calls me. Growing up on a farm, I learned very early on the meaning of a hard day’s work. I have brought that outcome-driven perseverance to every job, from my early days in Engineering, to my role as Chief Information Officer. My down-to-earth style makes me very approachable to business leaders looking to solve problems as well as to employees bringing forward new ideas and solutions.

I'm a lifelong learner

When it comes to technology and learning, I am a sponge. Earning one Master’s degree (Information Systems Management) wasn’t enough, so I am currently working on my Executive MBA. This is to help round out my business knowledge and make me an even better executive leader.

I'm an avid racing fan

When I am not at work setting strategic directions, executing operational plans, or improving the status quo, you may find me at a racetrack. Whether I am a spectator at an Indy race or in the driver’s seat of my Nissan GTR, I am happiest when going full throttle!
